So the NFL owners have decided exercise their option to opt out of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) which had been extended with the NFLPA ( NFL Players Association)back in 2006.
This means that the CBA will end in 2011.
What this also means is that the last season with a salary cap will be 2009 (if the CBA is not extended).
So for 2010, its going to be a spending spree for NFL owners as they can pursue the players whenever they want in the offseason and not have to worry about the cap.
Unfortunately this also means no NFL draft in April 2010 (much to my chagrin).
However, all is not lost. I think both the owners and the players will find more common ground in the next 18 months. Its too much in their interests to get a new deal done.
