Dixon Wins The Indy 500

Scott Dixon can now place his name in the pantheon of winners of the Indianapolis 500.

In the 92nd running of this historic race, Scott edged out Vitor Meira by 1.75 seconds to claim the prize and the right to drink milk in the winners circle.

It was Meira's second time coming in as the runner up.

Dixon led most of the laps (115 out of 200) and held off Marco Andretti and Meira for the win at the end. In fact, it was his pit crew that really deserves this win. He pulled out of the pit just seconds before Meira did.

Had Dixon's pit been a tad slower, we'd be talking about Meira's first Indy win instead of Dixon's.

Big Brown Has Crack In Hoof

It appears that Big Brown, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness at Pimlico, has a crack on the inside of his left front hoof.

It is a fairly common injury amongst racehorses and could keep him out anywhere from a few days to a few months.

His trainers are optimistic that he will be able to race in time for the Belmont Stakes on June 7th. If he does run in the Belmont Stakes and wins he will be the firs Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

We're hoping he does indeed make a full recovery. The sports needs a pickme up after the disaster in the Kentucky Derby this year.

Steroids Dealer Names Former And Current NFL Players As Cheaters

Apparently a steroids dealer is naming names of the current and former NFL players whom he alleges used steroids and other performance enhancing drugs.

As you may be aware, the NFL has a strict drug policy but of recent years that policy has been tested by new feats in chemistry.

I have no doubt that some "designer steroids" have been created to bypass the tests the NFL uses just like the BALCO scandal exposed the steroid use by many of our sprinters (i.e. Marion Jones, etc...)

Right now, only Matt Lehr has been mentioned by name. If true, hopefully the NFL will see fit to throw Mr. Lehr and the other cheaters out of the league.

NFL Owners Opt Out Of CBA

So the NFL owners have decided exercise their option to opt out of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) which had been extended with the NFLPA ( NFL Players Association)back in 2006.

This means that the CBA will end in 2011.

What this also means is that the last season with a salary cap will be 2009 (if the CBA is not extended).

So for 2010, its going to be a spending spree for NFL owners as they can pursue the players whenever they want in the offseason and not have to worry about the cap.

Unfortunately this also means no NFL draft in April 2010 (much to my chagrin).

However, all is not lost. I think both the owners and the players will find more common ground in the next 18 months. Its too much in their interests to get a new deal done.

Bought "Nosebleed" Seats? Use Sports Binoculars To See The Action

So you're going to the football game and you're closer to the skylights than you are to the field.

You could either squint and hope your eyes can help you glimpse at least some of the action.

Or...

You could invest in a pair of sports binoculars.

With binoculars, you can make sure you don't miss a thing.

Just make sure you get the right fit for you.
